Lighting for healthy schools
Can School Lighting Affect Students' Health, Concentration, and Learning?
Service Description
45-Minute Lecture: School Lighting – Helping Students See, Learn, and Thrive Can better lighting help students see, learn, and thrive? At VERAMlight, we are currently placing a special focus on school lighting. Children spend a significant part of their day in the classroom, where the visual environment can influence comfort, wellbeing, concentration, and learning. Yet many schools continue to face challenges related to glare, flicker, poor visual comfort, and inadequate lighting conditions. This 45-minute lecture explores how lighting quality can affect students and teachers, drawing on current research in lighting, visual ergonomics, health, and learning. Participants will gain practical insights into how the visual environment can support healthier, more effective learning environments and what factors should be considered when planning, evaluating, or upgrading school lighting. As a participant, you will receive: - A practical checklist for assessing the visual environment in schools - A procurement guide with key lighting requirements and recommendations - Evidence-based knowledge on glare, flicker, daylight, visual comfort, and learning environments This lecture is particularly relevant for municipalities, school authorities, facility managers, architects, lighting designers, engineering consultants, occupational health professionals, and companies involved in the planning, design, construction, or renovation of educational environments.
